Club Champion

The prestigious club champion trophy is given to the member who shows the best average speed in time-trials run on the road, under CTT Regulations, of 50 miles, 100 miles and 12 hours. The winner holds the Harry Wilson Trophy annually and is presented with a souvenir award. Winning the club champion trophy is quite an achievement so this page is dedicated to our champions since 1933 to the present day.

Harry Wilson was our first Club President and held that post from 1931 to 1947. Harry was a keen cyclist and a successful businessman, he gave the club a great deal of kindly advice in its early years and Committee Meetings used to take place in his factory on London Road. He was always ready to help the club financially and on one occasion we were very thankful to take advantage of his generosity when the Club Treasurer absconded with all the club funds. Thank you Harry!

Completing a 50 mile, 100 mile and a 12 hour time trial is pretty tough so may explain why the club champion trophy has only been awarded 37 times in over 80 years! Of those 37 awards just 19 club members have won, with David Slater winning 6 times between 1979 to 1991. Our full list of club champions is below, click on each name to see more information.
